Good News: Keillor Store

The new Garrison Keillor bookstore is named Common Good Books. When I saw the sign being painted yesterday afternoon, only "Comm" had been completed and I was hoping "Comma Nazi Books."

later

At the risk of giving off that MPR-culture-is-keen glow:

I stopped down over lunch. The manager was recording the outgoing voicemail message; a bouquet from the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers arrived as I was buying Montaigne's Essays.  (I've read them before, but I was drunk.)

The space has been built-out nicely; it's roomier and airier and more distinctive than its grotto-like predecessor, an art supply store. The store knows what it is: local writing (favorite: Minnesota Noir), prominently featured poetry,  fiction that leans toward the classic, non-fiction that leans a little left, Keillor as motif.  If you like to read you will find something here. Plus, Nina's coffee house is upstairs.
